Happy Blog Anniversary!

Posted by clare on May 14, 2008

Last May 11th, Sunday, this little blog marked it’s first year anniversary. With 21,000+ visits in one year, I have to say, it’s been a good year.

Technically I’ve been blogging for five years now, moving from one blog to another, from one url to another, from blogger to xanga to blogdrive and back to blogger before finally deciding to settle down on wordpress.

It’s been one heck of a ride. I’ve met so many people in the past few years of blogging. Some have remained friends to this day while some have left me wondering where they are now and how they are doing (because I miss you guys, wherever you are).

With this blog, I also learned that there are people who may not comment as much but who actually are regular readers of my blog. To all of you who have left me messages, thank you very much! I really appreciate the fact that you have left at least one message telling me that you enjoy my writing. It feels good to know that people like the things I have been sharing here.

Tragedies

Posted by clare on May 14, 2008

The Myanmar tragedy shocked me when I saw it on the news. It practically wiped off an entire island! What shocked me even more was the fact the military junta controlling the country was not exactly helping its people get the aid that it needs. How can people be so cruel? The tragedy practically wiped out their country and they are not doing everything they can to help…wala ba silang kunsyensya?

It is estimated that 60,000 to around 100,000 people have died and almost 2 million people were affected by this cyclone. I’ve seen news footage and it’s really heartbreaking. I really can’t believe that their rulers are making it difficult for their people to get the help that they need.

Another surprise that came with recent news was the earthquake in China. 7.9 on the Richter scale. The death toll right now has reached more than 12,000. I was really worried about a friend of mine who lives there. Thankfully, she doesn’t live in the area affected by the quake. But I am still very sad because I saw footage of the affected areas on CNN just last night. I hope these people get all the help they need.

These things seem to be happening one after another. I think mother nature is trying to tell us something…ano sa palagay nyo?

Me? Join Survivor? Hmm…

Posted by clare on May 14, 2008

Some people have encouraged me to audition for Survivor Philippines. According to the promo, the prize is 3 million pesos and last I heard, the game will be held in an Asian country that I’ve always wanted to visit ( can’t really tell you guys where, I’m not even sure if that’s allowed).

I talked to my family about it and they’re all laughing it off because they know how OC I can be about germs so they think I won’t be able to last on the island.

Thing is, the more people say no, the more I am challenged to give it a shot. After all, I tried out for AXN’s CSI Miami Mall Challenge last year and got in because I wanted to prove that even if I don’t win, I can hold my own in something physical like that when people around me think that I can’t.

I know I probably won’t be the strongest in the game physically if I get in but I think that I can be a pretty good strategic player. And to be honest, at this point if I get in the highest I’d like to be in is as part of the jury. That way I would have lost enough weight and I would have a lot of exposure looking pretty compared to the others who would reach the end. Lol! I can enjoy the country while I wait for a winner to boot! Hahaha!

I’m still waiting to hear from my other friends if they plan to join the auditions with me. I still have time to think about it. But the idea of at least auditioning seems like fun.

Oh, and to answer a common question about this thing that I recently found out about — camps are provided medical boxes with “feminine necessities” for that time of the month. ;)  Well, for the US version at least.

Missing My Mom

Posted by clare on May 14, 2008

Last Sunday, on Mother’s Day, I spent the evening with some of my good friends celebrating the birthday of someone dear to all of us. Fun times, that night. A spattering of embarassing moments aside, it was a good night. I haven’t had one in a while so that was a good stress-buster for me.

During the evening, I had spent a few minutes talking to the mom of the birthday celebrant. I honestly did not expect to be talking to her that night because it was the first time we had met and I was a little too shy to say more than “Hello” and “Good evening” to her.

It wasn’t too long of a conversation, but it was long enough for me to start missing my mom. For some reason, the demeanor of the mom I was talking to reminded me so much of my own mother. What made me even more sad was that we were talking about some personal things (like my love life: specifically, my lack of one) — things I should be talking to my mom about. It really made me miss having my mom around.

XOXO

Posted by clare on April 27, 2008

Spotted: Two males in a fist fight early one morning. It started as quickly as it ended. One of them, who we shall call Chicken Little, went running of in search of someone more powerful to come to his aid against the not so mild-mannered Mr. Hot Head.

It might have seemed like just some two alpha-males blowing off some steam but there was more than what meets the eye …

You see, Chicken Little had an affair with a colleague, Ms. MJ who, as far as we can tell, has told the whole world the sob story of her sad marriage and how Mr. Hot Head has made advances on her. Advances which, according to some sources, are actually figments of MJ’s imagination. After all, would MJ be able to show (with much sexual innuendo in her tone) a very racy video from her cell phone to someone who has supposedly made such “unwanted” advances?
